Hello HEN members and supporters,
The HEN Committee has been busy trying to come up with ideas for projects to protect and improve the Hawkesbury through collaboration with other groups in the area. We expect to receive some additional Federal funding in the near future and hope to be able to improve the health of the people, the natural environment and the river. Please get in touch with HEN if you have project ideas.
HEN may soon have an office at the Earthcare Centre inside the University where we can work, hold meetings and see people who would like to get involved with HEN projects. We are exploring this at the moment.
After the July floods we have again lost many of our plantings of local native sedges, rushes, casuarinas and other small trees at Pughs Lagoon. We will wait to see if the predicted heavy rain causes more damage before we act on this. Our Hawkesbury Wetlands and surrounding farms and people have again been devastated by the most recent floods. Many are very tired and disillusioned after so much cleaning up. We hope to be able to help here with the new injection of funds!
The Wetland Forum which was held in Winter was well attended and garnered lots of interest from local residents and Councillors from Hawkesbury and Hills Councils. Wetland protection has moved up the agenda!
HEN has held two morning teas for locals and the final one is next weekend in Kurrajong. It will include a bird walk and is booked out. We would like to hold more events like this including bushwalks if our members tell us that is what they want. Please let us know!
Our AGM will be held in the Windsor Library 2nd or 3rd November (tba) in the evening. The theme this year is Changes to the Hawkesbury River Following Recent Floods – Future Planning. So far we have two speakers confirmed and expect another soon.
