Volunteer
It’s an old refrain, I want to help save the planet but the problems are just so big I feel overwhelmed! Well you shouldn’t, especially in the Hawkesbury where there are so many things to do and so many great ways to do them. HEN has stepped up to the many issues confronting us and we have been delighted at the response by so many who have joined us and offered their experience and assistance.
From going on bushwalks, bird watching, helping monitor the health and condition of our waterways, wildlife and bushland, creating a backyard vegetable garden or bird-friendly garden, recycling your waste, writing a letter to your local politician and even just learning about our unique environment there are hundreds of ways to get involved. We need help with media- publicity, photography, legal issues, threatened species issues, water quality and sourcing studies, event management, financial planning, marketing, grant applications, staffing market stalls, and IT support. Becoming a member of an environment group is also an important way of staying informed about environmental issues as well as boosting the resources of these organisations. Volunteers are the lifeblood of Australia’s conservation movement. You can count on great company, good conversation, lots to learn and lots of others who will want to learn from you.
So what are you waiting for? Get active for nature and sustainability!
